SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced Friday lanes that have been closed for construction will reopen, where possible, for the Labor Day holiday to minimize travel disruption.
According to a release from IDOT, non-emergency closures will be suspended beginning at 3 p.m. and will remain until 11:59 p.m. Monday.
Despite the re-openings, IDOT said motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. They advised to avoid the work area when feasible and use alternate routes. Drivers were urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
