SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Tuesday announced 1,680 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 29 additional confirmed deaths.
Williamson County accounted for almost half of cases reported across southern Illinois at 47, and had two deaths stem from a long-term care facility. Massac County reported it’s first death due to the virus.
Local case breakdown:
- Williamson County: 47, two deaths at a long-term care facility
- Randolph County: 16
- Jackson County: 13
- Jefferson County: eight
- Franklin County: five
- Massac County: two, first death
- Perry County: two
- Gallatin, Johnson and Pulaski counties: one each
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 223,470 cases, including 7,917 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from August 18 – August 24 is 4.1 percent.
