CHICAGO – Heath officials announced Tuesday at Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s daily COVID-19 briefing Illinois may not see a peak of new cases in the sate until mid-May.

Another 1,551 confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus were reported and 119 deaths, bringing the state’s totals to 33,059 and 1,468 respectively.

Pritzker, who has not yet extended Illinois’ stay-at-home order expiring April 30, said changes are going to be planned.

“I want to caution that there isn’t, I don’t think there’s going to be some mass opening of lots and lots of businesses on May 1,” Pritzker said. “We will be making some changes to the stay-at-home order as it is.”

Health departments across southern Illinois reported new cases Tuesday as well. Here are the latest:

Jackson County (49 total)

• Male in his forties, acquired locally, isolated.

Jefferson County (34 total)

• Female in her eighties, isolated at a local hospital.
• Female teen, isolated at home.

Franklin-Williamson Bi-County (7 F, 17 W)

• Male in his seventies with underlying health conditions from Franklin County, acquired locally, hospitalized.

Hamilton County (2 total)

• Female in her fifties, isolated at home.

Health officials are investigating the cases to determine spread and family/community members who may have been affected.
