Cave-in-Rock Ferry Closed Early With Ohio River Levels Rising

HARDIN CO. – The Cave-in-Rock Ferry has closed due to rising waters on the Ohio River.

The closure comes a day earlier than expected, as ferry operator Lonnie Lewis said the river had been rising about a half inch an hour Thursday morning.

The ferry typically closes when Ohio River floodwaters are between 42 and 43 feet. The river was at 42.7 feet at the Shawneetown gauge at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The river is expected to continue rising until crest sometime Saturday morning.
