Illinois Reports First COVID-19 Death

CHICAGO (AP) – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported at a press conference in Springfield Tuesday the state’s first COVID-19 death.

According to Governor J.B. Pritzker, the woman in her 60s was not in a nursing home.

However, Pritzker announced 55 more cases have been confirmed since Monday, including 22 at one long-term care facility; 18 patients at the facility in Du Page County and 4 staff members tested positive. All are being quarantined.

In addition to the 21 new cases confirmed at the long-term care facility, a Chicago firefighter tested positive for the virus and a second positive test has been listed in Clinton County.

Currently, IDPH is reporting 160 cases in 15 counties in Illinois ranging from age 9 to 91.
