MARION – Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick and County Clerk Amanda Barnes have alerted residents to another phone scam working through the area.
The County Clerk’s Office has received calls reporting the scam, which claim the caller states the intended victim’s Social Security number has been used in another state. The caller falsely identifies themselves either as Barnes or as a person in her office.
The scam is an effort to obtain either personal information or money.
The sheriff and county clerk have reminded residents to never give out personal information over the phone, and any unexpected phone call demanding a quick financial payment is probably a scam.
