SPRINGFIELD – An Illinois lawmaker has introduced a bill that would mean you no longer would be able to pump your own gas.
Democratic Rep. Camille Lilly of the 78th District introduced House Bill 4571 last week, which would create the Gas Station Attendant Act. The bill, per the synopsis, “provides that no gas may be pumped at a gas station in this State unless it is pumped by a gas station attendant employed at the gas station.”
If passed into law, drivers in Illinois would have to wait for an attendant to pump their gas.
The bill was referred to the Rules Committee. If passed, the bill would go into effect Jan. 1, 2021.
