Benton Likely to Accept Resignation of Police Chief at Tonight’s City Council Meeting

Benton – The Benton City Council is expected to approve the resignation of Police Chief Kyle Melvin and name an interim police chief when it meets Monday night at 6 at City Hall. Melvin became police chief in April 2016 following the resignation of Chief Mike Andrews. Melvin, who has been with Benton Police since 2008, was named interim chief at that time and had the interim tag removed several weeks later when the city council named him police chief. The council is also expected to discuss and/or approve a one-year contract for Fire Chief Shane Cockrum. The meeting will be open to the public.
