Carbondale – An SIU student is being accused of being a Nazi. University administrators say that they learned of the incident when flyers were posted on campus, along with social media posts made early this week. The social media posts accuse the student of being a white supremacist and trying to recruit others, and call for administrators to rescind his financial aid. SIU’s Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Lori Stettler issued a statement saying that “scholarship and financial aid are awarded based on a student’s academic achievements or financial need. As a public institution, the school cannot and does not ask about political or social views when admitting students.” The statement also says all students share the right of free speech, including speech that most would condemn.
